Among the companies preparing for our always connected future, Cisco Systems is perhaps one of the most bullish. The company has been publically touting its vision of the “Internet of Everything,” which sees a world where everything, including light bulbs , has an IP address.
“This next decade will be about the digitization of society. It's not going to replace [the] other two, it's an additive thing. The internet of things is about sensor networks, machines communicating with other machines, and lots of data being created by this usage,” said Cisco Chief Technology Officer Padmasree Warrior in a CITEworld article .
It’s this forward-looking perspective that has perhaps influenced the company in its “Tomorrow Starts Here” theme for the 2013 Cisco Live show which will be held in Orlando, Fla. June 23-27.
According to data compiled by the company , more than 200,000 people attended Cisco Live in person and virtually last year and more than 200 partners exhibited in the World of Solutions.
This year’s show promises to be just as compelling with an opening keynote from Cisco CEO and Chairman John Chambers and the company’s CTO, Padmasree Warrior, and a closing keynote from British tycoon and Virgin Group founder and chairman Sir Richard Branson.
If Branson isn’t enough star power for attendees, they will be able to take in a concert from 1980s rock band Journey during the conference's Cusomter Appreciation Event. Yes, Journey. The same band of “Don’t Stop Believing” fame.
It’s probably safe to say that the Orange County Convention Center will swell with nostalgia as attendees bust out their own karaoke renditions of the classic ‘80s jam.
While the keynotes from the bigwigs are impressive, IT workers looking to get hands-on training and education at Cisco Live won’t be disappointed.
The show will host learning and training events in the form of master classes, with business leaders and strategists; peer roundtables, in groups of no more than 25; collaboration microsessions, which allows peers, partners and Cisco experts to present 20-minute overviews of trends, topics and best practices; and workshops, which provide attendees with an opportunity for hands-on learning.
