A new digital order will help healthcare cut costs and move faster.
The digitization of the healthcare industry is one of those obvious eventualities that’s seemingly been in the works forever. But progress is steadily being made as more healthcare facilities turn to electronic health records and embrace mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.
But talking about hypothetical benefits is one thing, seeing them in action is another.
IBX Vault [2], a data center based in Dulles, Va., surveyed the healthcare IT field and surfaced some compelling data in its infographic.
Namely, the company pointed out the steep costs of not implementing strict data loss prevention and protection measures by citing the fines that three companies had to pay:
- $4.3 million: The amount that Cignet Health was fined for failing to provide 41 patients copies of their medical records.
- $2.25 million: The amount that CVS was fined for failing to implement adequate policies, procedures and training to safeguard patient data.
- $1.5 million: The amount that BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee was fined after 57 unencrypted hard drives containing health information for more than 1 million patients were stolen.
